Considering that Aunt Merle was unreachable until 1330 today (yes, that time features prominently in the entries for this weekend), I didn't wind up doing grandmother duty. So, as I don't have a need to go off and find fun things to do, I instead chose to work on the lawn and back yard. The new hedge shears did wonderful things to uncover the brick walkway which I only vaguely recall having seen when I moved in. They also trimmed back the palm trees, revealing lights I never knew I had.

Let's compare and contrast the back yard walkway: December 2004 vs today.
Next, compare and contrast the palm trees: shortly after buying it, and today.
I do believe there's been some improvement.

Yes, I'm quite aware that it's nowhere near perfect, but as promised yesterday, here are pictures of the fence, and the posts which once sort of anchored it to the ground. The reed fence is also there, rolled up next to the trash cans.

Now, thanks to the wonders of digital photography, you can see here the kind of magnificent wiring the cable guys do here. I'm sure that the corrosion only increases the reception of antenna signals, for the over-the-air channels I receive. I'm honestly not sure whether that round thing there is a lockout to keep the Dish Network guy next door from receiving the craptastic cable here, or if it magically enables him to receive HBO. Either way, it can't be good when your cable connection resembles the distributor cap on a 1980s car, attached to a natural gas line using only generous amounts of electrical tape.

Oh yeah, and I picked the poor despondent plant that once hung from the porch roof up off of the ground. It now rests on top of the porch, which may or may not be a good place for it. I'm hoping that it doesn't need partial shade, or something like that. It'll be kinda uncomfortable for it if it does, until I manage to get my roof down off of... erm, my roof.
