2005-02-07: A Gun and a Sun

So, the SKS parts I ordered from Tapco arrived. I ordered a new recoil spring, a new top cover, and a new gas piston. Having installed them all, I need to take a picture of the rifle's current look. Of course, I also have a Sprinco wonder buff coming for the SKS. I already had one of their recoil systems coming for my CZ-97B, so I just tacked the wonder buff onto the order as I was curious to see if they worked. Once that's arrived, the SKS and '97 will both be ready for a test fire.

Also notable is that I got a free Sun 220R and a Sun tape backup drive from former MP3 co-workers at Printable.com. Basically, the Sun has two CPUs which are theoretically identical, but it will only boot with the one CPU in the one slot, and the other one in the other slot - it can't boot if you swap them. Considering that it's not proper Sun behaviour, they chose to look for a good home for it. This of course resulted in my making a lunch run up there. You can see the front and rear views by clicking the appropriate links. Of particular note are the two AC connectors visible at the bottom right corner of the machine on the rear picture. It's nice to have a computer which can be plugged into two seperate circuit breakers so that if either one goes down, it stays up. I intend to use it for a Sybase host for my Sybcontrol project.
