This lead to my writing a check to Kearney Lodge for the month's space rental - but then discovering that the office doesn't open 'till 9am. So, I brought my checkbook to work (so that I can fill in the check for my Hakim). I need to go home at lunch to call around and find out which of the local gun shops will give me the best rate on receiving my rifle and performing the requisite transfer. I have the hunch it'll wind up being Socal Guns, although if they want a lot in dealer's fees, I'll use Turner's. Because it's a chain, Turner's is viewed kind of like Wal-Mart here, and many folks in the gun community buy from them as a last resort. I get grumbled at if I even buy ammo from them, but frankly their white-box reloads are cheap enough I'll put up with a little grumbling. While I support independent stores with gun purchases, I don't see how ordering from Turner's is stepping on the "little guy" any more than ordering from Cheaper Than Dirt, which is where a lot of folks who hate Turner's order from.Back on the Hakim front, last night I managed to find the single 8mm mauser round which didn't get fired out of John's mauser. It's going to be necessary for me to take a picture of it next to some other rounds, for a size reference. Additionally, I've made a modification to the journal - it now supports sub directories. The reason for this was pretty simple; the left bar of dates was getting long, and this resolves the issue.
Most amusing spam for the day: Almost like a haiku, except that it probably wants to either save me money by refinancing my house to a higher APR, or inform me on behalf of women everywhere that my 'personal dimensions' need enhancement. |
