2005-07-03: The Living Room Saga

I managed to get the entire pile-o-cruft from the living room either sorted, loaded into a recycle bin, or into my bedroom. That was no small feat. There were two Home Depot runs today. One was for wall hanging supplies, and the second was for curtain rings. Yes, Mom, I finally caved in and bought them so that I can open my drapes to allow breeze/daylight in. You can see them clearly in this shot.

Of course, it's also quite noteworthy that the entire Biomorph desk / living room area is now clean to my standards - with the exception of my friend Craig's computer in front of the TV for an upgrade to Fedora Core 4. You can check out the photo gallery here.

On my second trip to Home Depot, I wound up picking up what claims to be industrial strength carpet cleaner. It's a polymer based powder you sprinkle onto any area of carpet with organic stains, scrub it in with a brush, and then leave it to sit for 30 minutes. Then you vacuum it up, theoretically with the organic material attached to the clumps of polymer. I chose to use the big dark spot on the carpet (which reeketh of cat pee when up close) as a test bed for this new wonder-cleaner. As you can see from an old shot, it's pretty big. And considering that it's laughed at a rug doctor, some Resolve, and some Woolite carpet cleaner, any results from this new stuff will constitute an improvement. While I haven't seen this spot by daylight (which is when it shows the best), it looks like it may have made an impact on the test area, which you can see in the bottom edge of the spot in this shot. The stain removal will be assessed some time tomorrow.

At any rate, this entry wouldn't be complete without some before and after shots of the living room. Compare and contrast with pics from when I was putting in the racks:
