2005-11-05: POSP scopes, on-PAR

Today, I acquired a POSP 4x illuminated scope for my PAR-1 rifle, from Airsoft Extreme. That's correct, I bought an actual Russian military-spec POSP scope at an airsoft store. It turns out that their receivers will take the same mounts as the real thing, so when airsoft gamers want authentic scopes... eh, they just buy real ones. I'd tried to purchase this exact same scope a while back, from Impact Guns, and they had just gone out of stock. I wound up getting it at Airsoft Extreme for a decent chunk less. I did, however, end up having to find my own batteries for it at Radio Shack. A pair of type 357 watch batteries were all I needed to illuminate it.

The way this scope works, is that there's a 3V light bulb halfway down the body of the scope, which shines up into the reticle. There are available adapters (around $30) which convert it to use one AA battery for power and an LED for illumination.

Believe me when I say that the manager at the local Radio Shack reacted... interestingly... when I walked in with my POSP scope and asked him to find me some batteries.
